Live Out Of Doors As Much As You Can

Thank you to everyone who took part in Slet for Lubetkin at Spa Green Park on Sunday. It was a lovely event and especially great to meet the Czech people who joined us for the exercise. Lubetkin's Health Centre can just be seen in the background of the photographs. The event was also filmed for a report by Czech public television - the link will be posted soon.

A few days before Slet for Lubetkin we visited Finsbury Health Centre to look around. Although no longer in pristine condition the building still has a great atmosphere and a wonderful light. We didn't find the original murals by Cullens but came across some painted copies with health propoganda slogans such as 'Fresh Air: Night and Day' and 'Live Out Of Doors As Much As You Can.'

The Deltoid Pumpkin Seed

I found this seasonal title in one of my favourite used book haunts - Bookmongers, 439 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton. I shouldn't have been surprised to find that it's actually still in print - it's a fantastical but true story of the making of a prototype flying machine – an orange saucer shaped like a pumpkin seed - built by a well-meaning Presbyterian minister for distributing bread and bibles to the poor.

Now collecting 60s/70s OOP titles for an event on 25/26 October at Designerama, the opening of the new Sackler Centre, V&A, London. Any suggestions?

Slet exhibition

Slet, a new exhibition is now showing at Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia, Norwich. The exhibition features a video documenting the events, Slet for Foster and Slet for Buckingham & Berry that took place in Norfolk this summer. Artworks made from vintage sports wear and ribbons, Sokol artefacts, rare books and photographs courtesy of the Laban archive and a library of out-of-print keep-fit books are also on display. The exhibition is free and is open 23 September to 14 December 2008.

The next slet will take place in London on Sunday 19 October - site to be confirmed.
